Preview

The San Francisco Giants return to Oracle Park on Thursday, July 9, for a 9:45 PM ET first pitch against the Colorado Rockies. Colorado will send right-hander Ryan Feltner to the mound, while San Francisco has yet to announce a probable starter. The Giants carry a lineup loaded with recognizable names — Rafael Devers, Luis Arraez, and Willy Adames chief among them — and will look to take advantage of a Rockies club that is deep into a rebuilding phase. Catch the action on NBC Sports Bay Area or KNBR 680.

Probable Pitchers: Ryan Feltner Starts for Colorado, Giants Starter TBD

Feltner gets the ball for Colorado, though no ERA, win, or loss totals were available heading into this one. The Giants have not announced their starter, which bears watching as first pitch approaches. Whoever San Francisco tabbed will face a Rockies lineup that skews young, featuring Kyle Karros at third base, Cole Carrigg in center, and 2024 draft-era names like Braxton Fulford behind the dish. This is a Colorado roster that is clearly oriented toward development over winning right now, and Giants pitching — announced or not — should treat the opportunity accordingly.

Keys to Watch for the Giants

  • Arraez at the top of the order: Batting second behind Ramos, Arraez is the kind of high-contact hitter who can set the table repeatedly against a starter with unknown current-season numbers. If Feltner is hittable early, Arraez will find a way to make contact.
  • Devers in the cleanup spot: Devers hitting fourth as DH is the lineup's power anchor. Any traffic that Ramos, Arraez, and Schmitt generate in the first three spots lands directly in his lap — and he has the bat to do damage with it.
  • Eldridge and the young core: Bryce Eldridge, hitting sixth at first base, is part of a group of Giants position players still establishing themselves at the major-league level. How he handles Feltner will be worth tracking.
  • The mystery starter: There is no getting around it — not knowing who starts for San Francisco is the biggest variable on the board. Watch for the lineup card announcement before first pitch.

Prediction

The Giants have the lineup depth to put up runs against a Rockies pitching staff that has been one of the more hittable in baseball. Devers, Arraez, and Adames form a formidable middle of the order, and Heliot Ramos at the top gives San Francisco a credible on-base threat before the heart of the lineup even steps in. The unknown starter is the only real source of uncertainty here. At Oracle Park, with that lineup behind them, the Giants are the reasonable favorite. Giants 6, Rockies 3.
